Tours · Tour & WordPress import

Bring your tours across in minutes

Enter your current website's address and choose the tours to bring across, paste the link to one tour page, or upload a WordPress export to bring trips, pages, posts and images across with redirects.

Overview

Tour & WordPress import at a glance

Moving systems shouldn't mean retyping everything. Enter your website's address: Tourtify finds its tour pages from the sitemap or the home page's links, you tick the ones to bring, and up to 40 at a time become draft tours with their photo and a redirect from the old address. Or paste a single tour page link and Tourtify reads it into a draft tour: name, description, photo and, with AI import, the itinerary, highlights, inclusions, FAQs and a starting price.

Moving a whole WordPress site? Upload the WordPress export file. WP Travel Engine trips become draft tours, destinations and trip types come across, pages and posts are imported, images are copied to your media library and old addresses redirect automatically.

What the importer reads from a page

Basic import reads what a page publishes for search engines and social sharing: schema.org data for a trip, product or event, Open Graph tags, the page title and the meta description. If the page has no description, it uses the first real paragraph. A FAQ published as FAQPage structured data comes across as the tour's FAQs, and when a page lists several prices it takes the starting price. Pages from websites with a good SEO setup therefore import best.

AI import also reads the page text and fills in difficulty, maximum altitude and group size, and each itinerary day with its overnight stop, altitude, meals and a timeline of activities, drives and flights with times where the page gives them. It is told to use only facts on the page and never invent prices, dates or inclusions, and it writes in the page's own language. If the AI can't read the page, you still get the basic import.

The page must be public. Tourtify fetches it from the open internet, follows up to three redirects and reads up to 2 MB, so pages behind a login, a paywall or bot protection can't be read.

Checking a draft before it goes live

Start with the tour type. A tour becomes multi-day when the page states several days or has more than one itinerary day, otherwise a day tour, so check that a long day trip hasn't been read the wrong way. If a tour with the same address already exists, the new draft gets a numbered address rather than replacing it.

The draft always has a Standard option with an Adult price, filled in only when the page showed a price in your business currency. Add child, student or group prices on Pricing & options, then check every inclusion against what you really provide, since an old page may describe last season's trip.

Only import pages you own or have permission to use, and replace any photo you don't have the rights to before publishing.

Planning a WordPress move

After you upload the export, Tourtify shows what it found before importing anything: trips, pages, posts, images, destinations, activities, trip types, categories and tags, with sample titles. It warns when items already exist with the same address; those arrive alongside with a -2 address. Menu items and other content types are listed as not imported, and the default Uncategorized category is skipped.

Choose your options before you start. You can copy images into your media library, up to 400 in one import, so nothing depends on the old website; redirect old WordPress addresses; and publish pages and posts that were published in WordPress, while tours always arrive as drafts. Tell Tourtify which currency the trip prices are in; prices are only set when it matches yours.

The import runs in the background, so you can leave the page. It is safe to repeat because existing content is never overwritten, and the uploaded export file is deleted when the import ends, since it can contain personal data such as author emails.

An order of work that avoids surprises

Read the Worth a look panel first: it lists skipped items with the reason and anything to check. WordPress shortcodes such as [gallery] are dropped and responsive image sizes that point at the old site are removed, so open pages that relied on them.

Next set your permalinks. If your WordPress site used /trips or /treks, set the same base so old tour addresses keep working directly. Then add departures and prices, publish tours one at a time as you check them, and set up your menus.

Connect your domain last, once the important pages are published. Then check Website › SEO & URLs › Redirects for the imported redirects, marked From import, and add any old addresses the export didn't cover.
