Nepal Payment Solution (NPS)
Accept cards, mobile banking and wallets from Nepali banks through NPS OnePG, from travellers paying in Nepali rupees, into your own NPS merchant account.
Who it's for
Why operators use Nepal Payment Solution (NPS)
Operators whose travellers pay in Nepal. NPS connects many Nepali banks and wallets through one merchant account, so domestic travellers can pay the way they already pay at home.
Highlights
- Travellers pay with cards, mobile banking and wallets from Nepali banks
- One NPS OnePG merchant account for the banks and wallets NPS connects
- Every payment is confirmed with NPS's status check, amount included
- Works alongside Himalayan Bank, Khalti, eSewa and your other payment options
Good to know
- Prices are charged in Nepali rupees (NPR).
- You connect your own NPS merchant account from Payments in your console.
- There is no webhook to set up: Tourtify checks each payment with NPS itself.
One gateway for Nepali banks and wallets
Nepal Payment Solution's OnePG gateway brings together card checkout through Nepali banks, mobile banking and wallets. The methods NPS has enabled on your account appear on its payment page and the traveller chooses there. The money is paid into your own NPS merchant account, and Tourtify records the instrument the traveller used on the booking.
For visitors paying with a foreign card, connect Himalayan Bank or another card gateway next to it. Travellers only see the options that suit the tour's currency.
Nepali rupees only
NPS takes payments in NPR and nothing else, so it appears at checkout only for tours with an NPR price. If your website's main currency is something else, the plugin's status panel says so: add NPR with the Currency switcher and give the tours you want to sell locally an NPR price.
The amount is sent to NPS in rupees and paisa, exactly as checkout showed it.
Signed requests and a short-lived payment form
Every call to NPS carries your API username and password and an HMAC-SHA512 signature made with your secret key. At checkout Tourtify asks NPS for a process ID for the booking amount and its own transaction ID, then posts the traveller to NPS's payment page with them.
The link to that form lasts 30 minutes, so an old payment page can't be reused. If it runs out, the traveller simply starts the payment again from your website.
Confirmed by status check, amount included
When the traveller returns, Tourtify doesn't trust the return link. It asks NPS's transaction status check about that transaction. An answer about any other transaction is rejected. A successful payment confirms the booking only when the amount and currency NPS reports are the same as the payment Tourtify asked for. If they differ, the payment is held and flagged for your team instead of confirming the booking.
A failed payment is closed, so the traveller can try again. A pending one, where the bank hasn't answered yet, is checked again. Tourtify keeps checking every five minutes for up to 26 hours in case the traveller doesn't come back, and closes a payment that still hasn't started after 90 minutes.
NPS asks for a notification URL when your account is set up. Tourtify doesn't need it, because every payment is confirmed with the status check.
Refunds through the NPS portal
NPS refunds are made through your NPS merchant portal rather than from Tourtify. Refund the traveller there, then choose "I refunded it in the provider's dashboard" on the booking so the booking, the traveller's balance and your reports stay correct.
Sandbox and live keys
NPS gives you a separate set of sandbox keys, including a separate secret key. In Test mode payments go to NPS's sandbox and no real money moves. When you connect, Tourtify checks the keys by asking NPS to list your payment instruments, a signed call that only answers to correct keys, and tells you plainly if NPS rejects them.
Setting up Nepal Payment Solution (NPS)
- 1Get a OnePG merchant account. NPS sets up your merchant account and gives you a merchant ID, merchant name, API username, API password and secret key for the sandbox.
- 2Connect in Test mode. On the Payments page, add NPS, choose Test and paste the five values. Enter the merchant name exactly as NPS sent it.
- 3Price a tour in NPR. Add NPR with the Currency switcher if it isn't your main currency, and give the tour an NPR price.
- 4Make a sandbox booking. Pay on NPS's sandbox page and check the booking confirms when you return.
- 5Switch to Live. Update the keys with your live set from NPS and choose Live.
