Who it's for

Why operators use KOMOJU

Operators whose travellers are in Japan. Offering the payment methods people already use at home is one of the simplest ways to stop them abandoning checkout.

Good to know

  • Prices are charged in Japanese yen (JPY).
  • You connect your own merchant account from Payments in your console.
  • Seats stay held while a konbini payment is made, and go back on sale if the slip expires.

How travellers in Japan prefer to pay

Many people in Japan pay with PayPay or other app wallets, or at a convenience store (konbini) rather than by card. The KOMOJU plugin offers cards, PayPay, konbini, Pay-easy, bank transfer, LINE Pay, Merpay, Rakuten Pay and Paidy through your own KOMOJU account.

KOMOJU charges in Japanese yen only, so it appears for tours with a JPY price. The payment page opens in Japanese when your website is in Japanese and in English otherwise.

Konbini and Pay-easy with seats held

Konbini, Pay-easy and bank transfer payments are made after checkout. When there is time for one to be paid and clear before the trip, KOMOJU offers them. The booking then waits with the seats held, and the traveller has KOMOJU's payment instructions. If the slip or deadline runs out unpaid, the seats go back on sale.

When the trip is too close, only on-the-spot methods are offered: card, PayPay, LINE Pay, Merpay and Rakuten Pay. The KOMOJU page stops taking payments when the seats stop being held.

Webhooks with a secret token

Add the plugin's URL under Webhooks in KOMOJU, choose a secret token and tick the payment events (captured, expired, cancelled and refunded). Enter the same token in Tourtify, which checks every webhook's signature with it.

With webhooks, bookings confirm as soon as KOMOJU captures the payment, and refunds made in KOMOJU show up on bookings. Pending payments are also checked every five minutes.

Refunds by method

Card and wallet payments are refunded from the booking through KOMOJU, in full or in part. Konbini, Pay-easy and bank transfer payments can't be refunded automatically, because KOMOJU needs the traveller's bank account. Create a refund request in KOMOJU, or pay the traveller back another way, and record the refund as made outside Tourtify.

Setting up KOMOJU

  1. 1Copy your test secret key. In KOMOJU › Settings › API keys, copy the key that starts with sk_test_.
  2. 2Connect on the Payments page. Paste it and choose Test. Tourtify checks it with KOMOJU.
  3. 3Price a tour in JPY. Add JPY with the Currency switcher if needed, and give the tour a yen price.
  4. 4Add the webhook. In KOMOJU › Settings › Webhooks, add the plugin's URL, choose a secret token, tick the payment events, and enter the same token in Tourtify.
  5. 5Test, then go live. Try a card and a konbini test payment, then switch to your sk_live_ key.

Payment providers

How payment providers plugins fit in

Payment provider plugins add the gateways travellers use at home, from PayPal to Mercado Pago, Paystack, Razorpay, KOMOJU or eSewa. Each connects your own merchant account, so money is paid to you directly and Tourtify takes no commission. Stripe is built in; travellers only see gateways that support the booking's currency.

FAQ

KOMOJU: questions

Why isn't konbini offered for some bookings?

The trip is too close for a konbini payment to be made and clear in time, so only on-the-spot methods are shown.

What happens if a traveller doesn't pay their konbini slip?

When the slip expires, the booking's held seats go back on sale.

What does KOMOJU charge?

Fees differ by method, so check KOMOJU's pricing. Tourtify takes no commission.

Which plans include KOMOJU?

KOMOJU is available on All plans, at no extra cost.

How do I switch on KOMOJU?

In your Tourtify console, open Plugins, find it in the list and switch it on. Its settings open straight away, and you can switch it off again at any time.

Do I need a developer?

No. Plugins are built into Tourtify and set up from the console. Where an outside account is involved, such as a payment provider, you connect it by entering your account details.

Does KOMOJU work with my other plugins?

Yes. Every plugin is built and maintained by Tourtify, so they work together: discounts, deposits, vouchers and fees all add up correctly at checkout.
