Who it's for

Why operators use PayMongo

Operators whose travellers are in the Philippines. Offering the payment methods people already use at home is one of the simplest ways to stop them abandoning checkout.

Highlights

  • Travellers pay with cards, GCash, Maya, GrabPay, QR Ph and online banking
  • Money is paid into your own merchant account, never held by Tourtify
  • Payments are matched to the booking automatically, so balances and receipts stay correct
  • Works alongside Stripe and your other payment options

Good to know

  • Prices are charged in Philippine pesos (PHP).
  • You connect your own merchant account from Payments in your console.
  • Add a webhook so payments confirm instantly and refunds made in PayMongo show up on your bookings.

E-wallets come first in the Philippines

Many Filipino travellers would rather pay with GCash or Maya than with a card. The PayMongo plugin always offers cards, GCash, Maya and GrabPay, paid into your own PayMongo account.

PayMongo charges in Philippine pesos only, so it appears for tours with a PHP price.

Extra methods when PayMongo enables them

Three more methods can be added in the plugin settings: QR Ph, online banking (BPI and UnionBank) and BillEase, a pay-later option. Tick them only after PayMongo has switched them on for your account; otherwise the checkout would offer a method that can't be used.

Checkout sessions and confirmation

Tourtify creates a PayMongo checkout session for each booking, with the line shown to the traveller and your booking reference as the reference number. PayMongo's own email receipt is turned off, so the traveller gets your booking emails instead.

A booking confirms when PayMongo reports a paid payment in the session, and Tourtify records whether it was a card, GCash, Maya, GrabPay or another method. Failed attempts can be retried on the same page. Pending payments are checked every five minutes.

Webhooks, signatures and refunds

Create a PayMongo webhook for the plugin's URL with the events checkout_session.payment.paid, payment.paid, payment.failed and payment.refunded, and paste its signing secret into Tourtify. Each webhook's signature and timestamp are checked, for test and live events alike.

Refunds from a booking are sent to PayMongo with an idempotency key, and refunds made in PayMongo show up on bookings through the webhook.

Setting up PayMongo

  1. 1Copy your test secret key. In the PayMongo Dashboard › Developers › API keys, copy the key that starts with sk_test_.
  2. 2Connect on the Payments page. Paste it and choose Test. Tourtify checks it with PayMongo.
  3. 3Create the webhook. In PayMongo › Developers › Webhooks, add the plugin's URL with the four listed events.
  4. 4Paste the signing secret. Copy the webhook's signing secret (whsk_…) into the plugin's Webhooks section.
  5. 5Choose extra methods, then go live. Tick QR Ph, online banking or BillEase if PayMongo has enabled them, then switch to your sk_live_ key.

Payment providers

How payment providers plugins fit in

Payment provider plugins add the gateways travellers use at home, from PayPal to Mercado Pago, Paystack, Razorpay, KOMOJU or eSewa. Each connects your own merchant account, so money is paid to you directly and Tourtify takes no commission. Stripe is built in; travellers only see gateways that support the booking's currency.

FAQ

PayMongo: questions

Why don't travellers see BillEase?

It is only offered once you tick it in the plugin settings, which you should do after PayMongo enables it for your account.

Can I charge in US dollars with PayMongo?

No. PayMongo only takes PHP; use another gateway for tours priced in other currencies.

What does PayMongo charge?

Check PayMongo's pricing. Tourtify takes no commission.

What if the payment fails?

The traveller can try again on the same PayMongo page, with the same or another method. The booking confirms only once a payment is paid.

Do I need the webhook?

Payments still confirm without it, because Tourtify checks each one with PayMongo. The webhook makes confirmation instant and brings in refunds made in PayMongo.

Which plans include PayMongo?

PayMongo is available on All plans, at no extra cost.

How do I switch on PayMongo?

In your Tourtify console, open Plugins, find it in the list and switch it on. Its settings open straight away, and you can switch it off again at any time.

Do I need a developer?

No. Plugins are built into Tourtify and set up from the console. Where an outside account is involved, such as a payment provider, you connect it by entering your account details.

Does PayMongo work with my other plugins?

Yes. Every plugin is built and maintained by Tourtify, so they work together: discounts, deposits, vouchers and fees all add up correctly at checkout.
