  • Add a webhook so payments confirm instantly and refunds made in Square show up on your bookings.

Square checkout links for your bookings

If you already take payments with Square, the Square plugin lets your website use the same account. Travellers pay with a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Cash App Pay on Square's hosted checkout, and the money goes to your Square account.

Each checkout is a Square payment link with a single line for the booking, the traveller's email filled in and the booking reference in the payment note, so payments are easy to match in Square.

Access token, location and currency

Square needs two things: an access token from your Square application, and the ID of the location payments are taken for. When you connect, Tourtify checks both with Square and shows the location's name and currency.

Square charges in the location's own currency, and the plugin supports USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, AUD and JPY. Price your tours in the currency of the location you connect; the status panel warns you if your website sells in a currency Square doesn't take.

Confirming payments

When the traveller returns, Tourtify reads the Square order behind the payment link and checks its payments. A completed payment confirms the booking; a cancelled order closes it. Payments that are still approved or pending wait.

With the webhook set up, payment.updated confirms the booking as soon as Square completes the payment. Tourtify checks each notification's signature against your signature key and the exact webhook URL registered in Square. Without the webhook, pending payments are checked every five minutes.

Refunds, disputes and payouts

Refunds from a booking are sent to Square with an idempotency key. Completed refunds you make in Square come back through refund.updated and show up on the booking.

Square disputes appear in Tourtify with their state, reason and due date. You can send Square the booking's evidence pack PDF and a short summary from Tourtify, or accept the dispute. Square payouts and their entries (charges, refunds, fees and adjustments) are also read from Square for payout reconciliation.

Setting up Square

  1. 1Open your Square application. In the Square Developer Dashboard, open your application › Credentials and copy the Sandbox access token to test, or the Production token to go live.
  2. 2Find your location ID. Under Locations, copy the ID of the location whose currency matches your prices.
  3. 3Connect on the Payments page. Paste the token and location ID and choose Test or Live. Tourtify shows the location's name and currency once Square accepts them.
  4. 4Add a webhook subscription. In your application › Webhooks, add a subscription with the URL shown in the plugin and tick the listed events.
  5. 5Paste the signature key. Copy the subscription's signature key into the plugin's Webhooks section, then make a sandbox booking to check it confirms.

Payment providers

How payment providers plugins fit in

Payment provider plugins add the gateways travellers use at home, from PayPal to Mercado Pago, Paystack, Razorpay, KOMOJU or eSewa. Each connects your own merchant account, so money is paid to you directly and Tourtify takes no commission. Stripe is built in; travellers only see gateways that support the booking's currency.

FAQ

Square: questions

Can I take more than one currency with Square?

Square charges in your location's currency. Tours priced in another currency need another gateway.

Why does Tourtify reject my location ID?

A Square location ID is letters and numbers only. Copy it from Square Developer › Locations, and use a sandbox location with a sandbox token.

What does Square charge?

Check Square's pricing for your country. Tourtify takes no commission.

Which plans include Square?

Square is available on All plans, at no extra cost.

How do I switch on Square?

In your Tourtify console, open Plugins, find it in the list and switch it on. Its settings open straight away, and you can switch it off again at any time.

Do I need a developer?

No. Plugins are built into Tourtify and set up from the console. Where an outside account is involved, such as a payment provider, you connect it by entering your account details.

Does Square work with my other plugins?

Yes. Every plugin is built and maintained by Tourtify, so they work together: discounts, deposits, vouchers and fees all add up correctly at checkout.
