Cover offered when travellers think about it
Travellers booking a trip months ahead worry about what happens if they fall ill or plans change. If you don’t offer cover, they either buy it elsewhere or hesitate. Travel insurance adds cancellation and travel cover to your checkout from a licensed insurer, priced for each trip and traveller.
Selling insurance needs a licence, so you never sell the policy yourself. The insurer sells it under its own licences, its own policy wording is linked rather than rewritten, and it handles claims. Your checkout shows the offer.
How it works at checkout
Cover is opt-in only, never pre-ticked, as insurance distribution and consumer rules expect. When a traveller ticks a cover, its price, quoted live for their trip and residence, is added as its own line outside VAT, since insurance premium tax is the insurer’s. The price they see is held for an hour, so it is the price they pay. A quote only applies to the trip it was given for: changing the departure, currency, group size or trip cost needs a fresh one.
The policy is issued only once the booking is paid. If issuing fails after retries, the policy is marked failed with the reason, on the booking and on the Travel insurance page, so your team can follow up. If the booking is cancelled, the policy is cancelled with the insurer, which refunds the premium within its free-look period; an unpaid checkout simply lets the quote lapse. This happens even if you later switch the plugin off, so a cancelled trip never keeps cover the traveller paid for.
Choosing an insurer
XCover by Cover Genius is the built-in option. It sells embedded travel cover under Cover Genius’s licences, through Tourtify’s partnership or through your own XCover partner keys if you have them. It is offered at checkout once that partner connection is set up, and which covers are available depends on XCover’s terms for the trip and the traveller.
If you already work with an insurer or broker, choose “Your own insurer” instead. Checkout then shows a link to their page, with one or two sentences of your own above it, and your affiliate link works there. A test insurer is available for trying the checkout outside production and never runs on a live website.
Setting up Travel insurance
- 1Switch on Travel insurance. Turn the plugin on in your console.
- 2Choose the insurer. Pick XCover by Cover Genius, or your own insurer through a link.
- 3Add your own XCover keys (optional). If you are an XCover partner yourself, add your keys under Your own XCover keys.
- 4Write the offer headline. Set the line shown above the cover options, such as “Protect your trip”.
- 5Check the checkout. Open a tour, start a checkout and confirm the offer appears unticked.

Discounts
Every discount in one place, shown on your website and applied at checkout. Promo codes and automatic discounts (Starter): codes and links with rules and limits, and no-code discounts for early bird, last minute, minimum spend and travel dates. Group discounts and dynamic pricing (Growth): savings for bigger groups, and prices that move with demand and season.
Add-ons & extras
Sell extras at checkout: airport transfers, gear rental, travel insurance, single-room upgrades. Priced per booking, per traveller, per night or per item, with quantity limits, shared daily stock and a question per extra (e.g. shoe size).
Booking & traveller fees
Add a fee per booking, per traveller or as a percentage, e.g. park permits or a service fee, with amounts per currency. Shown as its own line and included in advertised prices, as consumer law requires.
Waitlist
Let travellers join a waitlist for full departures. When seats free up, the next in line whose group fits gets the seats held for a few hours, then they pass to the next.
Gift vouchers
Sell or give gift vouchers with a value. Travellers enter the code at checkout and it pays like money, across as many bookings as the balance allows. Unused value comes back if a booking expires or is refunded.
Point of sale
Sell to walk-ins at the front desk, a kiosk or on the street: today’s departures and merchandise on one touch screen, split payments (cash with change, card reader, wallets, gift vouchers), cash drawers with Z-reports, printed or emailed receipts with the QR ticket, and sales that keep working offline.
