Who it's for

Why operators use Add-ons & extras

Anyone who sells more than the tour itself: transfers, gear, insurance, room upgrades or photos.

Highlights

  • Offered at checkout, right when travellers are deciding
  • Priced per booking, per traveller, per night or per item
  • Quantity limits and shared daily stock, so you never sell gear you don't have
  • Ask a question per extra, for example shoe size for rental boots

Selling more than the seat

Most tours have things travellers would happily buy if asked at the right moment: an airport transfer, rental gear, travel insurance, a single-room upgrade, a photo package. Selling them by email after the booking is slow and easy to forget. Add-ons & extras puts them on the booking form, under a heading you choose (“Add to your trip” by default), while the traveller is already deciding.

Each extra has a category: an extra, insurance or an upgrade. Insurance and upgrades keep their own headings on the form, so a policy doesn't sit between a T-shirt and a transfer. Names and descriptions can be written in each of your website's languages. The plugin is available from the Growth plan.

Four ways to price an extra

Choose the basis that matches how you pay for it. Per booking is charged once: a private airport pick-up at $60 costs $60 whether one or four people ride. Per traveller multiplies by the group: a $15 lunch for four is $60. Per traveller per night suits accommodation upgrades on multi-day trips: $25 per person per night for three nights and two travellers comes to $150. Per item lets the traveller pick any quantity, such as three wetsuits at $12 each.

Quantity limits stop odd orders. Per-traveller extras never exceed the group size. Per-booking extras default to one. Per-item extras can follow a custom maximum, so nobody books eight helmets for a party of two.

Shared daily stock

Gear is the classic problem: you own ten wetsuits, and they are shared between the morning and afternoon departures and two different tours. Give the extra a daily stock of 10 and Tourtify counts every booking that day, across every departure and tour, against the same ten.

Stock is claimed in the same step as the seats, under a lock, so the last wetsuit of the day can't be sold twice. A reservation counts while its booking holds seats; an abandoned checkout or a cancellation releases it without anyone having to step in. When five or fewer are left on the chosen date, the booking form can show “3 left”, which you can switch off.

Asking the right question

Some extras are useless without a detail: rental boots need a shoe size, a bike needs a frame size, a transfer needs a flight number. Add a question to the extra and mark it required if you need the answer. The answer travels with the line on the booking, so your team sees “Shoe size: 42” next to the boots.

The server checks required questions too, so a checkout can't skip one. For details about each traveller that aren't tied to an extra, such as dietary needs or passport numbers, use the Traveller details plugin instead.

Setting up Add-ons & extras

  1. 1Turn on Add-ons & extras. Switch the plugin on from Plugins (Growth plan and above).
  2. 2Create an extra. Give it a name, a category, a price and the pricing basis: per booking, per traveller, per night or per item.
  3. 3Choose the tours it belongs to. Limit each extra to the tours where it makes sense.
  4. 4Set limits and stock. Add a quantity limit and, for gear, a daily stock shared across departures.
  5. 5Add a question if you need one. For example shoe size, and mark it required if the answer is essential.

FAQ

Add-ons & extras: questions

Can one extra be shared by several tours?

Yes. Choose the tours it applies to. Daily stock is shared across every tour and departure on the same day.

What happens to stock when a checkout is abandoned?

The units are released when the checkout expires, and a cancellation releases them too. Nothing needs to be done by hand.

Are discounts applied to extras?

No. Promo codes, group discounts and dynamic pricing apply to the ticket price, so an extra keeps the price you set.

Which plans include Add-ons & extras?

Add-ons & extras is available on Growth & Scale, at no extra cost.

How do I switch on Add-ons & extras?

In your Tourtify console, open Plugins, find it in the list and switch it on. Its settings open straight away, and you can switch it off again at any time.

Do I need a developer?

No. Plugins are built into Tourtify and set up from the console. Where an outside account is involved, such as a payment provider, you connect it by entering your account details.

Does Add-ons & extras work with my other plugins?

Yes. Every plugin is built and maintained by Tourtify, so they work together: discounts, deposits, vouchers and fees all add up correctly at checkout.
