Paystack for travellers in Africa

Travellers in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya and Côte d'Ivoire pay in many ways besides cards: bank transfer, USSD codes, mobile money and M-Pesa. The Paystack plugin offers these through your own Paystack account.

Paystack appears at checkout for tours priced in NGN, GHS, ZAR, KES, XOF, EGP or USD. Tourtify records how each payment was made, for example card, M-Pesa, mobile money, USSD, bank transfer or Instant EFT, so your reports show which methods travellers use.

Saved cards for automatic balance payments

If you take deposits, Paystack can save the traveller's card for the balance. In that case the checkout offers card only, because only cards give Paystack a reusable authorisation. Later, the balance is charged to the saved card automatically.

If the card's bank wants the traveller to confirm the balance payment, Tourtify asks them to. A declined charge is reported with Paystack's reason, and a retried charge never takes the money twice.

Webhooks signed with your secret key

Paystack signs its webhooks with the same secret key you connect, so there is only one thing to do: paste the plugin's URL as the Webhook URL in Paystack. With it, bookings confirm as soon as Paystack records the charge, refunds made in Paystack show up on bookings, and disputes appear with their status and due date.

Every payment is also confirmed with Paystack's verify API, when the traveller returns and every five minutes while it is pending.

Refunds without double payments

A refund from a booking is sent to Paystack in full or in part. Paystack has no idempotency keys, so Tourtify remembers the result of each refund for 30 days; a retried request returns the same refund instead of making a new one.

Setting up Paystack

  1. 1Copy your test secret key. In the Paystack Dashboard › Settings › API Keys & Webhooks, copy the key that starts with sk_test_.
  2. 2Connect on the Payments page. Paste it and choose Test. Tourtify checks the key with Paystack.
  3. 3Set the webhook URL. On the same Paystack page, paste the plugin's URL as the Webhook URL. Nothing else needs copying.
  4. 4Test a booking. Pay with a Paystack test card and check the booking confirms.
  5. 5Go live. Replace the key with your sk_live_ key and choose Live, and set the live webhook URL in Paystack too.

Payment providers

How payment providers plugins fit in

Payment provider plugins add the gateways travellers use at home, from PayPal to Mercado Pago, Paystack, Razorpay, KOMOJU or eSewa. Each connects your own merchant account, so money is paid to you directly and Tourtify takes no commission. Stripe is built in; travellers only see gateways that support the booking's currency.

FAQ

Paystack: questions

Why do travellers only see card payment sometimes?

When the card is being saved for an automatic balance payment, only cards can be offered.

Do I need a separate webhook secret?

No. Paystack signs webhooks with your secret key, which Tourtify already has.

What does Paystack charge?

Check Paystack's pricing for your country. Tourtify takes no commission.

What happens if the traveller presses Cancel on Paystack's page?

Paystack sends them back to your checkout, where they can choose another way to pay.

Which plans include Paystack?

Paystack is available on All plans, at no extra cost.

How do I switch on Paystack?

In your Tourtify console, open Plugins, find it in the list and switch it on. Its settings open straight away, and you can switch it off again at any time.

Do I need a developer?

No. Plugins are built into Tourtify and set up from the console. Where an outside account is involved, such as a payment provider, you connect it by entering your account details.

Does Paystack work with my other plugins?

Yes. Every plugin is built and maintained by Tourtify, so they work together: discounts, deposits, vouchers and fees all add up correctly at checkout.
